Practice Room (practice-room.co.uk) is a free set of music theory tools, operated from the United Kingdom by an individual and used by visitors worldwide. This page explains exactly what happens to data when you use the site. The short version: nothing about you is collected, and everything the tools remember stays on your own device.

Who is responsible

The data controller for this site is the operator of practice-room.co.uk, contactable at admin@practice-room.co.uk. There is no company behind the site and no data protection officer — it is one person and a static website.

What is collected

Nothing about you, directly. There are no user accounts, no sign-up, and no forms that submit data. No analytics of any kind are installed. No advertising is served. No tracking cookies are set — in fact, the site sets no cookies at all.

What is stored on your device

The tools remember what you were working on, so you don't have to set it up again each visit. This is stored using your browser's local storage and stays on your device — it is never transmitted anywhere.

• Your musical context — the key, scale, tuning and left/right-handed setting you last used, so it carries between tools.
• Per-tool settings — for example which pentatonic box positions are showing, your metronome tempo, or a capo position.
• Your theme choice — light or dark.

Some of these settings also appear in the page address, so that a link you copy reproduces what you were looking at. Those addresses contain only musical settings — a key or a scale name — and never anything personal.

Offline use

The site can be installed to your home screen and used without a connection. To make that work, your browser stores a copy of the pages and files in a local cache on your device. This is a copy of the public website only. It contains nothing about you, is not readable by us, and is removed if you uninstall the site or clear your browser's site data.

You can remove everything the site has stored at any time by clearing site data for practice-room.co.uk in your browser settings. Nothing is kept elsewhere, so there is nothing to request or delete on our side.

Fonts loaded from Google

The site loads web fonts from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). When your browser requests them, your IP address and standard request headers are visible to Google as part of that request. This means a limited transfer of that technical data outside the UK/EEA to Google, whose handling is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. No other third-party services, trackers or embeds are loaded. If you would rather avoid this, a browser extension that blocks third-party font loading will stop it; the site remains fully usable, it just falls back to your system fonts.

Server logs

The hosting provider keeps standard access logs — IP address, requested page, timestamp and user agent — for security, diagnosing faults and keeping the site online. The lawful basis for this is legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): running a website securely is not possible without them. They are not used to build profiles, are not combined with anything else, are not shared, and are retained only for the short period the host keeps them before automatic deletion.

Your rights

If you are in the UK or EEA, the UK GDPR and EU GDPR give you the right to access, correct, erase or restrict personal data held about you, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because this site collects no personal data and stores nothing on any server about you, there is in practice nothing held to act on — the only data about your use of the site is on your own device, under your control.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

The site is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes in a way that affects privacy — for example if analytics or advertising were ever added — this page will be updated and the date at the top will change, before the new feature goes live.
