Welcome to Practice Room
Practice Room is a small, growing collection of interactive tools for learning music theory on guitar and bass. No accounts, no paywalls, no clutter — just tools that work in your browser.
What's here today
Five tools, each focused on one aspect of fretboard knowledge:
- Fretboard Explorer — the centerpiece. Pick a key, scale, and tuning, and see every note light up across the neck. Toggle between intervals and note names. Switch between guitar and bass. Left-handed mode included.
- Pentatonic Jigsaw — see how the five pentatonic positions interlock across the fretboard.
- Circle of Fifths — visualise key relationships, modulation paths, and the geometry of Western tonal music.
- Setup Guide — a step-by-step walkthrough for setting up your guitar.
- Bass Generator — a TB-303-style sequencer for generating bass lines.
What's coming
I'll be writing posts here roughly once a month. Some will be tutorials that build on the tools (how to use the fretboard explorer to learn modes, that sort of thing); some will be more general guitar and bass theory explanations.
If you've got a topic you'd like to see covered, drop me an email.
The goal is to be the resource I wish I'd had when I was learning.
That's it for the first post. Thanks for stopping by.
